Blast from the Past

Greetings from a past player
Hello from Afar !

Well, it’s been a while since I wandered around the Oval at Fulham CC. I think my last visit was when England last won a decent tournament…. but that was a long time ago, and not worth mentioning these days (good old Johnny !), so I have been in contact with a certain Mr Skully on and off for 10 years now, and in his last email (apparently too busy at work to email in full … yeah right !), he directed me to Fulham CC website……

Well, to say I was amazed to see some of the old names that I played with 10 years ago was quite remarkable, Polly, the Rawlings bros, Luko, Pethers, Nick Andrews, Johnny ’siph’ Villis, even Dave Butler (thought your knees were knackered !), sadly I notice Stav has taken to fatherhood and finally rested his old bones !

It bought back some wonderful memories of some great old friends, and of a great year I spent in Adelaide… from the help Polly gave me buying my old VW Combi van… well, his advice was “looks ok to me Moon, good luck getting it around Oz”, well it did, so thanks Polly. The first words I heard from Luko “so whats your name ?”… “Moon” I replied….. “what ?” says Luko… “MOON” I replied … “Nah, I’ll call you Bluey !” … wasn’t gonna argue with that man mountain !

Having never set the world alight with my batting .. I think I made A grade once, scored 0 & 4 in tha same day !, I have to say I loved every second playing with you guys, and having a few beers in the club !

Spending too much time in Naked Ladies clubs with Beeper, and of course an all day drinking session with Luko .. man that was a bad day. And the ever ongoing Golf at 43 Lorraine Ave…. did they knock that down after you lot moved out ???

So, things have changed quite a lot for me, sadly divorced from Helen, although we remain great friends, and I have now retired from cricket, a shame after 25 years with my club here in Enlgland, 4 knee ops and a hip replacement told me it was time to give it a rest. Now I am living a new life in Sunny California, with my new girl Miska, and loving every second, although I don’t get much coverage of cricket from around the world, luckily the internet is a wonderful thing.

I can’t believe it was 10 years ago, such great memories of the most fantastic times, and if any of you are every tempted to do a Dessie and see the world, you always have a room here in LA.

Be good, and keep playing hard.

Moon
