The Fulham A Grade headed into round four at 2 wins 1 loss and were up against local rivals Grange. Stand in skipper Nick` the rug` Andrews won the toss and we batted first. Yet another steady start from Paul Sibley (Sibs) and Craig Ritche (Ritchy) got us through the new ball and we went to drinks at 0/20. The plan to bat the day out was already looking promising. A few wickets fell as Grange bowled accurately and we went to tea at 4/72 with Rohan Way (Roey) and Domenic Croft (Crofty) at the crease. After a nice spread was put on by the opposition we went out and lifted the tempo and suddenly Grange were on the backfoot. Crofty made a stylish 30, his flicks through the legside were impressive. As we lost a couple more wickets Big Luko brought his axe out and along with Roey they started lifting the run rate. Roey fell short of another hundred hitting a ball to point to end up 96, word is he thought he wasn`t that close. Luko smacked a quickfire 48 and the falcons finished up 9/256, Nicko stranded not out again just 91 shy of his ton.
The lads were happy with day one, batting the day out doesn`t guarantee a win but it gives you a great chance to.
Well it rained overnight and it was enough to delay the start to 1.30, the pitch was fine so we had to bowl well. Luko and Nick took early wickets to get us going, one of their blokes hit the cover off it to Darren Gates (Gatesy) and stood his ground. After receiving some sound advice he rode his luck then we got him out again. They had a mini partnership through the middle order but once that was broken we went for the kill. Bowling honours went to Luko with 4/35 off 20 overs all against a stiff breeze, Nashy continued his fine form claiming 3/33 those two worked well in partnership, Roey chipped in with one as did David Karanicolou (Kara) with his first ball! Nicko bowled a menacing bouncer that had the slips running for cover pity he bruised his toe at release point!
Our attention turned to the cards night and after starting late we finished early, if only work could be like that sometimes. The A`s welcome back Tristan ‘Trip’ Glover and ‘Harbajan’ Darren Hortop for our next game against Old Scotch which is a one dayer at home after this weeks rest due to the aussies and sheep shaggers test match.
Sibs has the `Golden Boy` cap at the moment which for those that didn`t know is for who has contributed the most nuggets (game fines).
See you at the Club.
