‘The Falcons’ Weekend Wrap B2’s and LOC 20-12-2008

Part Two of the `Feelgood Weekend` saw our mighty B Grade side continue their rise up the ladder winning yet another crunch game. This time it was against Golden Grove who always give us a tough match but we kept to Killa`s plans and got the result we were looking for.

They batted first and made 228, after having them 5/120 it was a little more than we hoped however the skipper couldn’t fault the bowling and fielding as the bowlers bowled in the right areas and apart from one very sharp chance we fielded very well. Coco with two wickets was probably the most effective and this continues his excellent start to the season, he did scare `The Falcon` and a few others when he pulled up a bit proppy after his last over however the skipper is confident that Coco will not miss any games as a result.

So we had to chase 228 and the lads have been in good form so we expected to get the runs. Macca made a polished 56 before having to nick off to the North Pole, Killa made 32 leading from the front and `Froggy` Fregona backed up his innings at Flinders Uni making 28 , he looks more than capable of taking that next step through the ranks. With everyone chipping in along the way we managed to pass Golden Grove`s total just before our overs were completed, Andrew `Drewsy` Parsons smacked a quick 20 at the end to put it beyond doubt before setting off on a `Leyland Brothers` adventure around Australia in the new year, we will welcome Andy back next season as his sharpish left armers and big hitting will be very useful for us. `The Falcon` recommends that if you know any kangaroos personally that you give them the heads up that `Drewsy` and his ute are on their way.

The B`s are now sixth and on the way up, we have a huge game yet again next round playing Marion so lets hope that we can continue this good form in 2009 and with the B`s performing well it is keeping pressure on the lads in the A`s.Which is all good for the club.

All good things have to come to an end and unfortunately in the C`s we had a loss. Grange pulled our pants down basically so Chook and his men now know what`s required to beat the top teams. In cricket you can have games where nothing goes right and this was one of them. We didn’t pass 100 and they got the runs 3 down so it was an early finish for the lads who have been starved of cricket in recent weeks.

The beauty of having such a solid start is that the loss hasn`t dampened the lads spirits, we beat Grange last year in the Grand Final and `The Falcon` is confident that we will turn it around next game.  Captain Chook looked like he`d pondered the loss over a few quiet drinks on Saturday Night so I am sure he`ll be fired up come next match and we can get back to that winning form we have enjoyed.

The Falcon wishes everyone a safe and prosperous new year.
