A Grade: Fulham 10/304 def Hope Valley 10/112
The A`s had a comprehensive victory at Hope Valley which included another solid batting display. Dave ‘Kara’ Karaniclou at the top made 51, Darren ‘Beep’ Hortop the Skipper made 60 odd, Tristan Glover had his first bat for the season and smacked 46 including a big six, Crofty entertained on his was to 57 with a few Shivnarine Chanderpaul traits that stance is getting more and more open but its effective and Andrew ‘Drewsal’ Parsons hit a few missiles around the park making 35. We ended up with 304 which was a great effort and was on the back of 280 in Round 1 so the A grade bats are off to a good start. A few other funny occurrences included Drewsal`s Spiderman impersonation as he scaled the club wall a few stories collecting Tristan ‘Trip’ Glover’s six and Beeper found a way to keep the new ball coming off the bat, he hit the other one out the park never to be seen again although `The Falcon` did see a kid running down the street with a Muttley like laugh so perhaps he ganked it. A new ball was used again as a result.
When you make such a large total the other team are always up against it and unlike our first match, this time we drove it home with regular wickets. The conditions weren`t easy as persistent rain made it tough, Kara showed a bit of all round talent claiming 3 wickets, born again leg spinner Tripper took 2, Mark Nash found some good touch with 2 as did Will ‘MAD’ Roberts. We ended up rolling them for 112 for a mammoth 192 run win away from home.
Great start to the A`s although we need to stay on a roll early wins are crucial and we travel to town to play Pultuney OS this weekend for our third straight away match!
The B`s had their first loss on the weekend at the hands of Modbury and it was a strange old day. Batting first we made a reasonable score of 9/190. Best with the bat were Matt `Shaggy` Jackson who returned with 29 and the clubs new stud muffin Skulls` made a polished 58, he was also well supported by Luko who belted a handy 44 lower down the order which gave us a total to defend.
When bowling we unfortunately lost our way a little and the top scorer was Sundries who made 62!! 50 of those were wides which isn’t great although some were pretty harsh calls. So by giving them an extra eight overs to bat and with so many extras it was always going to be a tough and long day at the office, they had scored up for race 5 at Globe Derby by the time the two teams had headed to the changerooms. Best with the ball was Johnny` no nickname as yet` Rowswell with 3/44 and a few others chimed in with one each and Jonty fired down the stumps for a run out, well so he told me so I hope that actually did happen.
The B`s are now 1 and 1 and with another home game this week it is a good chance to get on the positive side of the ledger again.
Killa`s C grade also lost last week but they did fight the game out admirably after making a low score. Batting first we struggled to make 122 and didn’t last the full 40 overs, which is a sin these days. Luke Adcock top scored with 39 continuing his good form and Holla also got amongst it scoring in the high 20`s but that was where the main contributions ended.
It`s never easy defending such a low score but we did have Old Iggies on the ropes early, Lyndon ` Wild Man` Crossley picked up a few wickets to make it interesting. At one stage we had them 6/80 and a win was a chance however we just couldn’t get that knockout blow and the opposition eventually passed us and then got a few late runs to increase the margin, the final result being a 38 run loss. The batting in our C`s is there so `The Falcon` reckons it was just one of those days but with the way we fought it out it shows that our C grade will put themselves in a winning position in most games they play, stick at it boys and get on a role this week.
James ‘Chook’ Tillbrook (Current D Grade captain) continues to not supply a match summary for his side, hence no report being available here. We believe this is due to his intense physical activity regime he is currently on in order to be in top nick for the coming Test series with the West Indies.
On another note, can we make sure we phone the scores through after each days play. We have a strong following and its important that this is always done Win, Lose or Draw. Cheerage!
See you at the club, The Falcon
